Sea Winds

When the wind blows from across the sea
And the gulls are cryin' above
Of the ancient things that used to be
And the bright world that I have loved
You can hear the songs of Tir na Og
Echoed across the veil of time
Ghostly voices singing in the fog
Of the world when it all did shine

The waves are breakin' upon the shore
As my heart's breakin' within me
All of my people have gone before
But where they went, I cannot see
They left no trail for me to follow
Oh, Brigid, must it be this way?
Is it in bitter grief I must go
And all of our songs fade away?

Must even the silver roses die?
Could not that one beauty remain,
In this world where dragons cannot fly,
And no one cares for the heart's pain?
Could not a single rose bloom again,
To remember those who are gone?
Or must all of our tales come to an end,
Dreams to be forgotten at dawn?

The Sea is singing to me
And the Three Ravens are calling me
I turn my back upon the trees
And look outwards to the Western Sea
Oh, why did it have to end this way?

When the wind blows from across the sea,
And the gulls are cryin' above
Of the ancient things that used to be
And for the memory of love
You can hear the songs of Tir na Og
Echoed across the veil of time
Laments keening through the fog
For the world when it all did shine
